Exactly one month after losing Ollie, we have bid a sad farewell to his litter brother Oscar. The last of the Monster boys.
An affectionate and happy soul from the very beginning, Oscar considered himself to be a bit of a ham. He loved posing for photos and was always up for a bit of fun.
Starting his racing career in Andrew’s four dog team with his brothers and nephew Jonty, Oscar was a workhorse from day one and only ever gave us his all. Competing in every class, Oscar’s slow retirement from sledding saw him spend his time in one dog, veterans and touring where he joined Ollie and Caleb in making life long memories together. He even competed in skijoring with Lisbet Skogen Norris.
Two years ago Oscar slipped a disc in his back and that saw him become a permanent member of the retirement village in the house yard. Determined and headstrong until the very end, Oscar managed to get himself around and spent lots of time just lying in the sun taking it all in.
I think he missed being part of the kennel. He loved the interaction with the younger dogs especially the girls.
The past few months have been hard to watch and although he was still very sound of mind, Oscar’s body was telling us that it couldn’t go on.
Reunited now with Ollie and Sully, I hope he’s giving them as much love as what he gave us his entire life. Thank you Natalie McIllree for being such a generous friend and bringing the boys into the world and our lives. That chapter of our kennel has now come to an end.
See you later Oscar. Our hearts are torn and full of sadness right now but I know that you are free from pain. Yes, you were a very good boy
